MODULE 1: Astrology, Mythology and the Psyche

CLASS 1:   OF GODS AND MORTALS:  FROM CHAOS TO COSMOS    (Introductory 4 hour seminar)
Emissaries of the Psyche – An astrological/psychological genealogy of the origins of the Western Classical Gods:  from Chaos, the genesis of all things, to the birth of Gaia and her creation of Ouranos and their astrologically relevant offspring.  The focus is on the Gods who people our Horoscopes.  We explore their realms both classically and psychologically to see how nothing has changed in the realm of the archetypal.  How the archaic content of our collective unconscious “became” our planets’ names, thence psychic contents. The synchronicities of Gods and Planets  – and their familial relationships – are dramatized as they are enacted in our own lives:

“The latest incarnation of Oedipus, the continued romance of Beauty and the Beast, stands this afternoon on the corner of 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, waiting for the traffic light to change”  . . . Joseph Campbell from “Myths To Live By”

CLASS 2:     THE BIG PICTURE: THE GREAT FAMILY OF PLANETS
An introduction to archetypes
and their astrological expression.  We will explore the possibility of how the symbols in our horoscopes are ambassadors from our deep core-Self to our reality world – from the archaic archetypes to their most personal expressions; from the Global ethos, to our Society/Culture, to our Family and, ultimately, to YOU.   E.g.:  Shadow; Anima/Animus; Parental archetypes; Authority conflict; Siblings; Group/Tribal affinities and more.   The archaic vestiges of psyche from earliest humanity continue to sleep in our deep Self/psyche, and ‘modernize’ or awaken in numinous – unusually affective – feelings, dreams and clinging sensations.   We could say they were messages from the gods – personal ambassadors from our family of planets.

CLASS 3:     INTERNALIZATION OF THE GODS
How we Became Personally Responsible:  The Development of the Ego/Self is explained.   Understanding the psychological concept and content of the Self and its “seed” of our becoming.  Taking our psychological planetary tasks (Fate) and shaping them (self awareness) is a work never done, it is our magnum opus.  Planets do not make us “do” anything, however they seem to be remarkably in collusion with the archetypes of the deep Self.  And our planets!  When we can no longer blame the stars and the gods, but see the horoscope and its planets, signs and aspects as unique personal motivation, we are liberating our Self.  We will be continuing on from Class 2  ad hoc.

MODULE 2:  Interpreting the Horoscope

CLASS 1:   PLANETS, SIGNS AND HOUSES:  Circuits of Development
In this class we see the Planets, the Signs, and Houses as Circuits of Development in a totally UNIQUE fashion, one that synthesizes while individualizing each process:

This is an original and powerful organization of the house/planet/sign evolution that Erin has developed.  It is an astounding way of viewing the entire horoscope as an evolutionary process.  Each one of the four-phase development sequences of each of the Circuits is profoundly brought into clarity . . . It is a basis that is immediately insightful and applicable.  This method lies at the very foundations of our core being and relationship with our self and the world – both in and around us, and how we process “basic primary input” to our most socialized developmental processes:

1. The Self Realization Circuit Origins of Being – Cardinal/Angular Cross
The Self Realization Circuit is embodied in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th houses, their natural rulers, Aries/Mars   Cancer/Moon   Libra/Venus

2. The Self-Actualization Circuit Individuation and Manifestation – Fixed/Succedent Cross
The Self Actualization Circuit is embodied in the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th houses, their natural rulers Taurus/Venus, Sun/Leo, Scorpio/Pluto (Mars overthrown!), Aquarius/Uranus  (Saturn overthrown!)

3.  The Self Expression Circuit Perception, Information, Beliefs – Mutable/Cadent Cross.

This natural circuit is embodied in the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th houses . . . Gemini/Mercury, Virgo/Mercury, Sagittarius/Jupiter, Pisces/Neptune (Jupiter overthrown!)

We look at an amazing astrological psychological interpretation of the archetypal nature of the planets, their houses, their signs, their qualities and elements as they are – and then in our horoscope.  This class works with balance and integration, with meeting ourselves in the mirror of the chart and mediating opposites or internal conflict. Learn to be yourself within the structure of your own integrity.  Becoming more of who you meant to become is the function of individuation – allowing your Self (psyche seed self) to communicate to the container of Ego (“I am”) as it evolves, changes, and undergoes transformation.  Personal growth can be said to be based on the deepest inner urges from the core deep Self, the seed of you in evolution.  Self is the part of you who knows who you are to become.   Student Chart example/s used.  PDF handouts.

CLASS 2:   ASPECTS: THE INTERIOR CONVERSATION
Erin introduces unique, powerful ways of discerning subtle differences in the various aspects.   There is a jockeying for position in our family of planets, and thus, we are always in flux, in motion, in the process of becoming.  We are never quite “there” . . . and our aspects are “planets in conversation”.  Some are arguing, some are ridged, some are brilliant, creative and others are suppressed or in denial . . . let’s look at as many ways of using the conversations well.

Looking at our planetary interactions in the horoscope as how we view the world from within our own self.  Aspects are looked at from various ways:  all the complex configurations (grand trines, T-square/grand cross, yods and all major complexes.  Primarily using the Ptolemaic aspects, the harmony of the spheres, from conjunction, sextile, square, trine to opposition and back again in phases, we will learn how to work with our own dramatic dynamics – and in that way, how to help ourselves and others gain confidence in working with both ‘hard’ and ‘mediating’ aspects in the natal horoscope.

CLASS 3:    PERSONAL EVOLUTION: On Living an Archetypal Life
Depth Interpretation of myriad – often contrary – expressions of the astrological signs and their houses: and all human experiences: the astrology of signs as motivators of expression, their houses as domains of experience, and the elements/modes will be explained in flowing context with each other. The power point imagery will be evident and explanatory. . Seeing the images of the circle of the zodiac, in harmony with houses and the foundational elements is visually active and imprints the images into your mind for recollection.  Drawing on and expanding the previous work done in the course, we get an advanced look at real charts, real people, and real lives.  E.g. how to be assertive not angry; how to be authentic and contained not subordinate; how to nurture yet not sacrifice and so forth . . . we look at using our self and charts in healthy ways.

* As exemplars of the work done in the previous classes, incorporating, synthesizing and interpreting Class Student horoscopes, we see how people “use” their aspects, houses, signs and planets in their life – personally, vocationally, emotionally, relationally – in all ways.

MODULE 3 – THE HOROSCOPE IN MOTION: Creating our Future

Class 1:  FOUNDATIONS:    BECOMING – THE MOON, THE SUN and MERCURY / VENUS CYCLES:
The second we are born, our natal horoscope instantly becomes a transiting chart . . .

We start with the 1st year of life, and the Moon’s transit around the horoscope in the first month of life as the preverbal, embedded, visceral origins of responses to our environment. The Sun and its first annual transit as it conjoins each planet in sequential order, along with the 13 transits of the Moon in one year.  This first year of life seen through this lens, creates a template of “being-ness” and foundational responses as core receptors for all transits to come.  The “Solar Siblings” – Mercury/Hermes and Venus/Aphrodite – are treated in depth, with their weaving to and fro the sun (from our view) their retrograde cycles, and their deep personal significance as the ambassadors of the sun – the “identity trinity” . . . We may not know our intimate history of the first year of life, but as our life unfolds, patterns emerge and a form of re-collection occurs deep in the psyche and our viscera.

Class 2:  ESTABLISHMENT of IDENTITY: MARS, JUPITER and SATURN CYCLES:
The evolution of our Consciousness and the process of individuation is just that – it is not formulaic, and from the natal horoscope, we will again emphasize awareness through the psychological eye.  Using the mid-sequence planets, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, we explore Identity based on core Self and the emphasis of family, society and our relationship with/to it.  The cycles of Mars every 2 years and 2 months, Jupiter returns every 1 year and 1 month, and the now famous Saturn Return is marked – it has 4 major cycles in its 29.5 year.   No transit of a planet is ever experienced in the same way – ever – but the experience from the first transit to the next is familiar and thus can be evolutionary. Knowing this accelerates consciousness.  As we experience a strong transit, we embed that into our system and from that, it will evolve to yet another psychological state of being     Class horoscope/s used to demonstrate processes’ and alignment of transits and experiences.

Class 3:  OPTIONS IN CONSCIOUSNESS:  URANUS, NEPTUNE and PLUTO CYCLES
We focus on the transit of outer planets – Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – and their unique one-off transits and their cycles of retrogression as ‘gestation cycles’.  In natal charts they act as “options in consciousness”.  Prior to March 13, 1781, these options we didn’t or couldn’t language in the same way as we now do.

The pattern of the outermost planets have three stages over an 18 month period, culminating in the birth of an illumination that has been in mysterious incubation in your psyche – and they always coincide with meaningful events and rarely predictable as events . . . As we learned from all the previous classes, we can get a feel for an archetypal expression  . . . and   in the ongoing movement of outer planet transits there are precise stages:

1st Shock and awe

2nd Some level of Comprehension

3rd A lifetime process of change in consciousness

The fact is the outer planets never repeat the same transiting aspect to your natal chart – likely even Uranus.   However, if you live to your Uranus return c. 84, and older (this can be good!) it may repeat a contact to a natal planet again, but it will be – truth be told – the last time!

The outer planets are particularly powerful in their cycles, and each transit originated from your natal position . . . thus, the natal horoscope holds the future of your timing and cycles of personal crisis, breakthrough, transition and evolution.  There is no formula for individuation, but a deeply intimate, transformational cycle always present in an outer planet tranist.
This class presents a finale, coming to the deepest and most mysterious and wholly unique planets as options in consciousness.  We can choose or are often forced to access our personal unconscious and the collective unconscious in synchrony with these planets and their transiting aspects.  They always bring greater awareness and change in our lives – and, yes, they can be very difficult, and yes, it requires a huge amount of ‘work’ and consciousness – even relinquishing is liberating.  There is a full treatment of the retrograde cycle.  (Personal class example horoscope/s are used)

(n.b. With Pluto in Capricorn on outward now in 2015, there are 5 ‘passes’ and those will increase
in number as it moves against the zodiac more “slowly” – till it gets to Taurus where it spends 32 years
– while in Scorpio it spent 11 years! Think about that!)
